about us

Origin

Kilmurry

Kilmurry is a small area in the north of of Gorey township in county Wexford, Ireland. Wexford is a rural county, made up of hilly landscapes, coastal cliffs and sandy shores which is located in the sunny southeast of Ireland. This inspiring and relaxed region of Ireland continues to stimulate everything I make and do. It taught me the importance of creating timeless and functional furniture , that can be used in any home, wherever that may be.

Design

If you're seeking a custom-designed furniture piece or have a particular vision in mind, we can collaborate to bring your ultimate furniture creation to life. I welcome individuals with specific designs in mind to reach out to me directly. This invitation extends to those interested in utilizing their own materials, whether it be repurposing an old furniture piece or incorporating materials like floorboards from your home. Additionally, if you have a desire to embed an object within epoxy, I'm here to accommodate your unique preferences.

Materials

Currently, I work with a variety of materials including wood, steel, and epoxy. Your design can incorporate any combination of these elements. We exclusively obtain our timber from local Irish trees, offering the option to include a tree certificate with each product, detailing the species, age, location, and felling date of the tree. Common native Irish trees comprise oak, ash, hazel, birch, Scots pine, rowan, and willow, while beech, sycamore, and fir have been introduced. My preference leans towards Irish woods such as Oak, Beech, Elm, Chestnut, and Sycamore. We collaborate with various suppliers for steel table legs and other furnishing accessories, mostly sourcing from small-scale providers. Our epoxy is procured in Germany.

Colour and Finish

As an emblem of uniqueness and superior quality, One Of A Kind offers products that are truly one-of-a-kind. Each timber piece and epoxy pour is distinct, resulting in a varied finish for every clock or table. The choice of timber, epoxy, and finish significantly impacts the appearance of the final product. To ensure a personalized touch, I use a variety of finishes including lacquers, oils, waxes, or combinations thereof. Additionally, staining the wood is an option if desired.

Who and what is OOAK?

RUDOLF WORTMANN

I moved from the Netherlands to Ireland in 1995. Over the years I have setteld in and have become more and more interested in creating furniture from local sourced material. And as I have alsways enjoyed nature and woodworking, in 2022 I decided to setup my own workshop."Working with wood relaxes me, it's inspiring. As is the surrounding area I live in."

One of the moments I look forward to is selecting timber, looking at different types of Wood from different trees and their different characteristics. And when working with them watch the colours come to life when treated with different oils, wax or varnish.

My family are artistic and i think I got some of those genes. In 1985 I learned different woodworking techniques as well as working with woodworking tools and machines, which started my love to work with wood. - Creating and see what develops. It stimulates me and is every time again as exciting as the first piece of timber I worked with.

The "Wortmann" table stands out as a one-of-a-kind furniture item, accompanied by an authentic Rudolf Wortmann certificate. Each certificate features a distinctive number and provides detailed information about the table and the materials utilized. All the timber employed in crafting these tables originates from Irish trees, and upon request, I can furnish a report specifying the precise location where the tree once grew. Owners of a Wortmann table express utmost satisfaction, as they possess a unique furniture piece that often serves as the centerpiece of their home.

The inception of the Wortmann clock began as a sample project, aimed at exploring the potential and intricacies of crafting a clock using wood and epoxy. Through revisions and experimentation, the clock gained momentum, becoming a sought-after item in hundreds of homes and offices. Evolving with demand, a new clock design has emerged, expanding its materials to include acrylics alongside wood and epoxy.

Introducing exquisite epoxy and wood clocks, the perfect blend of craftsmanship and style! Handcrafted with precision and attention to detail, our clocks add a touch of sophistication to any space. Each piece is unique, combining the warmth of wood with the modern allure of epoxy resin. Elevate your decor with a timeless centrepiece that not only tells time but also sparks conversation.
